Cover Crop Selection & Management

Project Summary

The Vineyard Team will collaborate with a total of five growers in the Paso Robles Groundwater Basin to evaluate the effect of different cover crop species on water infiltration, soil moisture retention, and use of plant available water in the vineyard. Additionally, treatments to suppress and terminate cover crops will be evaluated to provide growers with practical methods to reduce net consumption of stored soil moisture. The economics of each treatment and projected water conservation will be documented and outreached to growers in future meetings and publications.
