Growers graft or top-work vines for many reasons: changing varieties without having to replant, grafting scion wood onto rootstock in the field or possibly replacing diseased wood. This tailgate is intended to teach the attendees the ins and outs of grafting, Topics include:

  •  Why graft or top-work
  • When to graft
  • How to select scion wood
  • How to prepare vines for grafting
  • How to care for vines after they have been grafted

The other part of this tailgate is about planting vines. Vines can be planted as dormant rooting or green growing vines. Learn about common mistakes people make when planting vines and how to avoid them. Topics include:

  • Caring for recently planted vines
