3: A Short History of Red Blotch Disease

Grapevine Red Blotch-associated Virus causes a delay in ripening, unfavorable changes to juice chemistry, and lower yields in Chardonnay.

Dr. Deborah Golino is the Director of the Foundation Plant Services (FPS). FPS is a unit of the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at UC Davis dedicated to the distribution of disease tested, true-to-identity plant materials produced by UC researchers or improved by technology developed by UC researchers. At this time, FPS is responsible for programs for grapes, strawberries, fruit trees, nut trees, sweet potatoes, and roses. These programs have played a key national and international role in distributing new crop varieties and healthy planting stocks.

Dr. Golino describes the history behind the discovery and study of the major grapevine virus diseases.
