Using the wastewater from the winery to irrigate the surrounding vineyards is not as simple as it sounds. Representatives of Jackson Family Wines will explain how the wastewater treatment system at their Monterey facility processes the winery effluent to make it suitable for irrigation. Mai Ann Healy will describe BioFiltro’s BIDA® System of treating winery wastewater.

Natural predator-prey relationships are key to any IPM program. In the case of rodent pests like gophers, the predators are in the ecosystem, but they are losing habitat. Nesting boxes for barn owls and other raptors provide this habitat. When placing nesting boxes around vineyards we are bringing habitat and hunting grounds together for the benefit of the predators and ourselves. Mike Best will talk about Pacific Gas & Electric Company’s commitment to protecting birds in California, especially species like the barn owl. Chris North of Airstrike Bird Control will introduce us to a barn owl and talk about how we can help raptors help us.

Vineyard Team is proud to be the recipient of a grant from Pacific Gas & Electric Company to distribute free barn owl nesting boxes to our members! One owl box per member will be provided, and quantities are limited. Members must be present to receive complimentary owl box. Please register for owl boxes ON SITE
