Make a Gift, Change a Students Life

November 29 is GivingTuesday—a global day of giving where people all over the world come together to support their favorite nonprofits.

This year, Vineyard Team is participating in GivingTuesday! Our goal is to raise $75,000 to provide academic opportunities to children of vineyard and winery workers — but we’ll only reach that goal through the kindness and generosity of people like you. Will you support us on GivingTuesday?

Three ways you can get involved:

  1. Donate to the Juan Nevarez Memorial Scholarship. Your kindness and generosity will help the upcoming generation achieve their dreams of a better life.
  2. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram! We’ll share updates and stories throughout the month.
  3. Spread the word by telling your friends, family, and coworkers why you’re passionate about higher education. Then, invite them to join you in making a difference.

This is how donations helped recipient Alberto:

Growing up in a small California community called Shandon, Alberto was always told that he would not get anywhere in life. Working in agriculture with his father since his first year of high school showed him what a tough life his parents had. Alberto shares, “My experience in the vineyard pushed me to do better in school and motivated me to get a better education to eventually repay my parents for what they've done for me.”

Since graduating high school in 2018 as treasurer of ASB and FFA, member of the football and basketball teams, and with high grades, Alberto successfully completed two years at Cuesta College with Certificates of Achievement for Pipe Welding and Structural Welding all while continuing to intern at a local vineyard management company. Today he continues on to Freson State to earn a degree in Viticulture.

Alberto thanks all the donors that have supported him, “The scholarship has been very helpful. It has allowed me to buy books, pay tuition, cover a lot of expenses, and not worry about using out-of-pocket money to pay for school. The scholarship has allowed me to focus on school and be the best person I can be.”

Since 2015, 98 percent of scholarship recipients have been first-generation college students. We’re only able to help students like Alberto achieve their dreams of higher education because of supporters like you. I hope you’ll join us on GivingTuesday!
