Scholars + Coffee + Cal Poly = One Great Morning

Last month, we hosted a casual meet-up at Scout Coffee on the Cal Poly campus for our Juan Nevarez Memorial Scholars. It was an open invitation to any students in the area, and we were thrilled to spend time with Daisy, Evelyn, Erid, and Kimberly. Erika from Must! Charities stopped by too, and it was great seeing her connect with the students one-on-one.

What stood out most was how confidently the students engaged. They asked thoughtful questions, shared both wins and struggles, and sought real feedback from Alex, their mentor. This kind of direct, ongoing support is only possible because of your generosity.

Here’s what the scholars are up to:

Daisy

Now in her second year, Daisy is excited to begin major coursework, including viticulture classes next semester. She continues performing music and will appear at Libretto Jazz Club in Paso Robles next month.

Evelyn

Evelyn is thriving in her first year as an Early Childhood Development major. She joined a sorority focused on cultural and professional growth and is part of a sustainability team through College Corps that’s launching a campus thrift store.

Erid

A first-year student, Erid is already off to a very strong start academically and fully engaged in all of his coursework. He is currently working on a project to improve the reliability of NICU infant incubator temperature readings. Motivated by his own medical experiences and the confusion his family faced during that experience, Erid’s dream is to help create clearer, more dependable medical tools.

Kimberly

Now in her third year, Kimberly recently switched to Construction Management and is thriving. She’s working on a hands-on building project, living off campus, and balancing school with work as she builds toward her future career.

Thank you for investing in these students’ futures. Your support does more than fund education; it builds confidence, creates opportunity, and reminds these young people that their community believes in them.

In partnership with Must! Charities.
