Kristal isn’t Wwaiting to make an impact
Thank you again for your past support of the Juan Nevarez Memorial Scholarship. Your gift makes a real difference, not just for the students, but for the communities they go on to serve.
Did you know college graduates are 88% more likely to be employed, earn higher wages, and are twice as likely to volunteer or vote?
For Kristal, a scholar studying Kinesiology at Fresno State, those statistics are already taking shape. She isn’t waiting until graduation to make a difference; she’s doing it now.
This past summer, Kristal volunteered at a skilled nursing facility, logging nearly 300 hours supporting elderly patients.
Here’s how Kristal described the experience:
“One case that really stayed with me was an older gentleman who was bedridden and unable to move. By the end of my time there, he was walking. I remember first seeing him struggle just to get up from his chair, needing so much assistance, and feeling frustrated with himself. I encouraged him, reminding him how much progress he had already made. Eventually, I saw him stand with ease, exercise confidently, and continue improving.
Witnessing his journey showed me the incredible dedication of healthcare workers who never gave up on him. It gave me the amazing feeling that one day I, too, will make that kind of impact on my future patients.”
Kristal’s story is just one example of how your gift goes further than the classroom. It helps students grow into the kind of professionals and people who uplift others.
