Since winning the 2019 Vineyard Team Educational Scholarship, I have graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science. I am now a graduate student at Cal Poly completing a Master’s of Science degree in Agriculture with a specialization in Crop Science.
I am conducting a research study that is focused on investigating fungicide resistance in Powdery Mildew and Botrytis bunch rot on wine grapes in the Central Coast region of California. My research is coming along great and I am looking forward to see how the results from this study will assist winegrape growers in effectively managing these detrimental diseases in their vineyards.
In addition to my research work, I am currently completing a program at Allan Hancock College to obtain an Associate of Science degree in Agribusiness: Viticulture. Thus, I am taking various viticulture and winemaking courses to become more familiar with all aspects of this industry.
Words cannot express how grateful I am for being a recipient of the 2019 scholarship. This scholarship has had a valuable impact on my educational journey and future career aspirations. This scholarship has provided significant support that has allowed me to afford a graduate education in addition to inspiring me to continue chasing after a dream of making a difference in the wine and grape industry. There is no doubt that without this scholarship I would not have the means to be where I am today, furthering my education and fueling my goals to obtain a career in vineyard management. I will forever and always be thankful for this amazing opportunity!
