PRESENTATION:

Assessing and Managing Salinity in Grapes (Michael Cahn)

Without sufficient winter rainfall or irrigation water, salts from both fertilizers and irrigation water build up in the root zone of the vine. This causes marginal burns on leaves, reduces vine growth, and reduces yields.

Experts from UC Cooperative Extension and local growers will discuss the scientific aspects of soil salinity and management practices to reduce the buildup of salts in soil.

Confirmed Speakers:
  • Michael Cahn, Irrigation and Water Resources Advisor, UCCE, Monterey County;
  • Larry Bettiga, Monterey County UCCE Viticulture Advisor;
  • Scott Quilty, Director of Vineyard Operations, Jackson Family Wines - Monterey County
